Miguel focuses on maintaining a collaborative mindset with his clients and works in a psychodynamic, social learning, and person-in-environment orientation. He states, “My patients are the experts of their lives and I am the expert of therapy; we use our combined expertise to increase the quality of their lives. I’m a big believer in adapting to my clients, so I adjust my therapeutic style according to their individual needs.”
Miguel teaches his patients how to understand, assess, and cope with stressors through the implementation of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as utilizing Solution Focused Brief Therapy to assist clients when dealing with more time-sensitive issues. In his experience, he has found that this combination of treatment modalities is very effective when managing life’s challenges. When asked what he finds most fulfilling about his work, Miguel responded, “I get literal goosebumps when my patients begin to use the coping skills learned in therapy on their own. It shows that they are truly absorbing the information and taking back control of their lives. Therapy is not easy; it takes a lot of hard work, patience and time, but it is worth it because my clients are worth it. I look forward to working together and guiding them through that process.”
