Balance Awareness Week

Dr. Maria Fernandez, Psy.D, a Lotus Counseling Psychologist, shares her blog on Balance Awareness Week.

In today’s world, it is very difficult to feel as though we live a balanced life. We are constantly making to-do-lists that are never ending. We are trying to juggle our personal, family, and work life all at the same time. In the midst of all this, some of us have children to raise, mortgages to pay, students loans looming over our heads, some of us work various jobs, and then there is LIFE.

Life will be throwing curve balls towards all of us in different moments in our lives. So how do we handle it all? I have asked myself this question many times and now I am posing it to you. I feel the answer to this complex question is really trying to find and honor balance in your life. Balancing all your responsibilities, personal needs, and wants is what I have come to believe is the trick to living a satisfying and fulfilling life.

In order to make this happen, one needs to try and keep things simple. Go back to what makes sense. In other words, it is not about materialistic things such as driving the nicest car or wearing designer clothes. It is about taking time out of each one of your days to connect to who you are.

Again, keep it simple and that will open up new perspectives for you. Try it!
